Notes

Description
This publication is about Colorados landscapesthe landscapes of the nineteenth century as experienced by the explorers/discoverers of one of the great surveys of the West, that of Ferdinand Vandeveer Hayden and the landscapes of today as experienced by those who live in and visit the highest state. Landscapes have a context in which they reside and are experienced; they have a language that can be read more naturally than a book. The dialogues that Hayden and his survey participated in with their landscapes and the ones that take place today consist of or can be read only through some specific vocabulary and understanding that vocabulary requires some comprehensive knowledge. Hayden collected the best scientists available to provide the knowledge he needed to read and survey the lands of Colorado.
